This story follows a young demigod, a child of Zeus, who is struggling with the betrayal of her closest friend, Zane. Once a loyal companion and skilled fighter, Zane has turned to the dark side, now calling himself Eric and serving the Titan Kronos. The protagonist is shocked by this sudden shift, especially when Zane-now Eric-attacks her and claims their friendship was built on lies.
Still reeling from the encounter, the protagonist confides in her friend Jakob, who explains the history of Kronos and his war with the Olympians. This newfound knowledge deepens the protagonist's fears about Zane's fate. Meanwhile, the school's social tensions continue, with Annabelle, the head cheerleader, taunting them until Niall, a popular student, surprisingly steps in to defend them.
As the protagonist reflects on Zane's transformation, Jakob suggests that mind control might be at play, given how drastically Zane's personality has changed. This leaves the protagonist with more questions than answers, setting the stage for a deeper conflict between friendship, loyalty, and the growing war between the gods and Titans.
