-------------------------------

This is only a temporary weakness that he takes note of to never let happen again.

When he turns his back toward her, a searing singe of pain is scratched somewhere inside him as he begins to take a step away from her but he forces it aside for the time being, until he can forget it all together.

"Wait." A quiet and raspy voice calls out as a warm hand captures his wrist in a gentle grasp.
Dane stops in his tracks as the hold on his wrists tightens slightly.

"Why?" The question leave his lips before he can stop them and yet 'why' is the perfect question. Why indeed isn't he tearing his arm away from her touch and trucking through the door to return to being the only thing he knows how to be?

"Because I want to look at you." Alexis says, unknowing of what exactly she's asking for.

The dark hallway lies ahead, beckoning Dane to hide in its safety. Welcoming him with open arms, as a mother would with its beloved child but the heat of the light warms his back in a coercive manner. The heat of Alexis's light calls to him.

"Let me see who you are...please."
-------------------------------

Alexis Mulligan just wanted to protect her beloved cousin from falling into the hands of an Alpha who is a ghost no one has seen and yet everyone fears. She never expected to be haunted by the phantoms of her past or the one that she has become engaged to. Now, steeped into a world of silence she must become the Luna she signed up to be or leave sleeping monsters where they lie.

...

Dane Whitfield finds comfort in the dark nest he has created for himself. No gawking eyes, screaming voices, or fearful gazes fall upon him when he is locked in his tower and he is satisfied with just that. Or at least he thought he was until a girl who is intended to be his Luna is thrust upon his well built castle wall. A bright light threatens the peace in darkness that Dane found himself in and he can't decide if it should be embraced or snuffed out.

"Ensure they cannot touch what belongs to me again," he commanded, his voice firm and authoritative. His beta nodded, taking a step back and bowing his head. "Yes, Alpha King." The gravity of the situation hit me like a ton of bricks - they were talking about my friends. A wave of panic washed over me as I realized my little drama to piss him off had put them in danger. Now, I had to act fast to prevent disaster. I couldn't let my recklessness hurt the people I care about. I tugged on Alarico's coat sleeve, and he turned to face me. Our eyes locked, and for the first time, I felt genuine fear. My voice barely above a whisper, I said, "Noooo." Alarico's gaze narrowed, and he raised an eyebrow, as if granting me permission to speak. I swallowed hard and tried to find my voice. "D-Don't hurt them." My words were laced with desperation, and Alarico's expression softened slightly. He tilted my face toward his beta and said, "Order them." I hesitated, unsure of what he meant. Was he testing me? But Alarico's gaze remained steady, his voice low and commanding. "Say it," he urged. With tears welling up in my eyes, I spoke, my voice shaking with rage and fear. "I, Mario Cassano, order you to revoke your alpha's previous order and not to lay a finger on my friends." The words felt like acid on my tongue, but I knew I had to protect my friends. As I finished speaking, Alarico's men dropped to their knees, their heads bowed in unison. I stumbled backward, startled by their sudden action. "Your wish is our command, Queen Luna," they chanted in perfect harmony. The title "Queen Luna" sent shivers down my spine. What did it mean? And why did Alarico's men respond to me with such reverence? I looked up at Alarico, searching for answers, but his expression remained enigmatic.
