Synopsis

MAGGIE WHITMORE is twenty four years old and standing at a crossroads she never expected to face. She is denied medical school and the future of becoming a surgeon, choosing instead to serve as a field nurse on the front lines. Haunted by the loss of her brothers and strained by a difficult relationship with parents who want her safely settled as a housewife, Maggie throws herself into the war effort. She joins the Howling Commandos determined to save lives where she can, even as grief and duty pull her in opposite directions. Among the unit she finds herself repeatedly clashing with Bucky Barnes, whose unpredictable behavior both frustrates and unsettles her, though she cannot ignore the growing pull between them.

BUCKY BARNES is twenty six and barely holding himself together. Rescued by Steve Rogers after brutal experiments at the hands of Hydra, he struggles to cope with the physical and mental aftermath. His first medical evaluation comes from a sharp tongued and unyielding nurse who refuses to treat him like a fragile patient. He soon discovers that she will be joining the Howling Commandos. At first Bucky masks his trauma with charm and reckless humor, trying to outrun what Hydra left behind. Over time it becomes clear that without Maggie's steady presence he is unraveling faster than he can control.

Together they move through the chaos of World War Two. They face devastated battlefields, Hydra strongholds, and the constant threat of loss. Friendships are tested and some are lost forever. What begins as irritation and guarded tension slowly transforms into something deeper and far more dangerous. This is a story about survival, about enemies becoming something more than friends, and about how long two broken people can resist what they feel before giving in.
