The Vampire Diaries was a show with messy storylines and plot twists, most of the time created just for shock value and cheap drama. As a viewer, they were interesting. But now that I lived in Mystic Falls? Not so much. I liked stability, scrolling through my smartphone and talking to my family. And now here I was, stuck in high school again-in 2009, no less-battling an identity crisis and constant paranoia, completely alone in a foreign country.

In this cruel world-where life and death meant nothing to the supernaturals, where they stood above regular people, where my morals would be tested over and over-I had to ask myself: What truly made me human? And could I abandon my empathy and heart if it meant surviving for a day longer?
