"Guys, my parents are stressing me out with the marriage rant. Please save me." Meera sat on the table they were sitting on while having their dinner in absolute silence.

"Why don't you get married then? It would put an end to all the discussions at once." Angad glanced at her, pouring water into his and his wife's glass.

"It's so hard to find someone in this generation, and I don't believe in arranged marriages." Meera almost retaliated. "Not everyone is as lucky as you two."

The couple locked their eyes at the additional comment.

"Arranged marriages are not that bad," Aarzoo said, placing all her olives on his plate.

"Right! But then, what if I have someone settling for me because they didn't get what they want? I can't be someone's compromise." Meera shook her head at the thought.

"If they didn't get what they wanted then it was never meant for them. Destiny, you know? And if you look at it this way, there are no compromises in marriage, just adjustments." Angad shrugged his shoulders as he popped one of the olives in his mouth while looking at Aarzoo.

"And adjustments are not that bad if they are done for your favourite person." Aarzoo pitched in with a small smile, not without sparing her husband a glance.

"And what about love? Did you guys find love?" Meera asked so casually, careless of how the other two almost skipped a beat at the same time.

It's the question they have been dreading to even think about, even after three years of marriage. How would they answer her?

They simply focused on the task at hand, him eating all the olives while she drank the water to gulp down the hard truth.

-:𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐓𝐄𝐃:- -This book moves a bit faster than my usual pace. Some events might feel slightly fast-forwarded, but I've done that to keep the essence tight, the emotions raw, and the story impactful without unnecessary dragging. . . He exhaled, running a hand through his hair. "Roop, shaadi kisi majboori mein nahi ki jati." (Marriage isn't something that should happen out of compulsion.) A bitter smile tugged at my lips. "Yahi toh farq hai tumhari aur meri zindagi mein, Anirudh. Tumhare paas choice hai, mere paas nahi." (That's the difference between your life and mine, Anirudh. You have a choice. I don't.) His expression darkened. "Main tumhari family se baat karunga-" "Nahi!" I cut him off, my voice sharp with desperation. "You won't understand. You've never seen helplessness, Anirudh. You don't know that when a girl has no options, she only looks for survival." A strange silence stretched between us, thick with unspoken pain. Anirudh sighed and leaned back against the bench, his fingers tapping against his knee. "You're telling me you'd marry any stranger just because you have no other way out?" I stiffened. "You're not a stranger." His lips quirked up, almost amused. "Until a day ago, I was." I clenched my fists. "I don't care who you are. I just need to accept this match, or the other option will destroy me." Anirudh fell silent, his gaze steady on me. The playfulness in his eyes faded, replaced by something more intense, more thoughtful. Finally, he asked, "And what if I tell you that I don't want to marry you either?"

Each step, each round of the holy fire, led Meera and Shreyansh into a life they never expected, never planned, and never even imagined. Once strangers with separate paths, their lives were now intricately tangled, bound by fate's unpredictable design. "Now, fill the partition with vermillion on the bride's head," the priest announced. Shreyansh pinched some vermillion between his fingers. As an elderly lady unveiled Meera, Shreyansh's gaze fell upon her tear-streaked face. Her eyes remained tightly shut, as if shielding herself from the harsh reality unfolding around her. With a heavy heart, Shreyansh filled her partition with the sacred red powder, some of it falling onto the bridge of her nose. "Aaj se aap dono pati patni hai, vivaah sampurn hua," the priest proclaimed, declaring them husband and wife. A wedding is supposed to be a joyous celebration, a sacred union filled with love and affection, the beginning of two lives intertwined in harmony. Yet, their wedding felt like a solemn ceremony devoid of joy. No music, no laughter, no celebration. Shreyansh stood up from the mandap and walked away, leaving Meera sitting there, still covered by her veil. Her fingers fidgeted with a pendant, the name "Vikram" etched into it. A fresh wave of tears cascaded down her cheeks as she caressed the initial of Vikram's name. Unable to hold back her anguish, she whispered his name, "Vikram," before her body gave in to the overwhelming emotions and she fell unconscious.

Featured in Serialised Spotlight Reading list of @AmbassadorsIN✨ Saanjh Mishra, a 27-year-old teacher, loved her simple, purposeful life. Her days were spent surrounded by young minds, and she found satisfaction in helping shape their small worlds. Marriage felt distant, almost unnecessary, yet when her parents arranged a meeting with a young doctor, she couldn't refuse. Ashrut Sharma, a 28-year-old pediatrician, was equally committed to his own quiet routines. Balancing his days between his studies and caring for children at the hospital, he found comfort in his solitude. Romance had never been a priority, but when his mother gently urged him to meet Saanjh, he agreed, if only to make her happy. Their first meeting was meant to be brief, an exchange of polite pleasantries over tea. But something in their shared silences and steady glances sparked a connection neither had expected. Saanjh saw a steadiness in Ashrut that felt reassuring, while Ashrut found her laughter warm, a contrast to his own reserved nature. Bound in marriage by their families' wishes, Saanjh and Ashrut began their life together as strangers, each careful in the other's presence. Yet gradually, small gestures began to bridge the space between them-a shared cup of tea in the early morning, the gentle way he'd listen to her talk about her students, or the warmth of her smile as she handed him his stethoscope before he left for work. In these moments, an unspoken affection grew, something as natural as it was unexpected. And with each quiet glance, each shared meal, they realized that love, perhaps, was not as distant as they had thought. In each other, they found not just a partner but a companion who brought a quiet joy to the everyday.
