In a parallel world, love is forbidden.
Long ago, Fey lived a different way. They embraced love, and lived in a perfect harmony.
But peace doesn't last. One day, everything changed. A Fire Fey who called himself 'The Unifier' invaded the other Elements (Earth, Ice and Storm) with his supporters, and used their love against them. It wasn't long before he controlled Faery as a whole.
The war for love went on for a century before the gods of Faery, the Elementals Intervened. They created a new type of Fey, learls. Half Fey, half Elemental, and deadly to both.
The first learl saved Faery. But no gratitude was given. The Fey were too afraid of him. They killed him, and put an end to learls. But they couldn't go back to living the way they had.
They vowed not to fight anymore, and never again would they let love be their weakness. Love was banned, and they formed The Circle, a ruling committee on which a representative from each Element was chosen. They world has stayed this way since.
Kestrel has always obeyed the rules. Falling in love has never been an option, and she has never considered it.
One day, she is sent to kill a learl. Instead, she finds a boy with a gentle soul. Touched, she begins to question what her beliefs were made up of.
When the time comes, will she follow her head, or her heart?

He walks forward, pressing the blade into his throat. His skin is taunt against the serrated edge, and blood beads around it until it drips down his neck in a crimson trail. My eyes widened, wanting it. He is looking at me with those dangerous, glinting green eyes, daring me. "Kill me, then. If you feel nothing, you can kill me. Then you can leave.The choice is up to you. It always has been," He whispers. His words leave me as cold as the blade at his throat. These are my options. Kill him, or agree to be his. I make my own choice. I can not take my freedom away. I can not be the mate he wants, but I can not kill him. With a deep breath, I turn the knife on myself. The Other Side of the Lie (EDITING, ON HOLD)
What if humans lived alongside witches, vampires, fey, and werewolves? Yeah, they don't though. They're divided into Factiones (no, that isn't a typo, go away Grammarly) by a starburst mountain range that is actually new, relative to the rest of the geology. Then someone dies. Of course. Not original is it? I suppose there's a good reason it always starts with someone dying. Well, being murdered in this particular case. I know, also not very original. But please, bear with me. Basically, the people in power are insane and dangerous. (There are really too many clichés here, aren't there?) And our not-so-normal band of motley heroes have to stop these crazy people. I understand that this is more or less the same plot line as 17% (minimum) of all books on the planet, but seriously, if you want to have a 12-year-old (almost) burn down/melt half a castle, this is your book. Be patient though, because it might take you a bit to get there. Enjoy! 1st completed book!!!!!! (I haven't edited it yet though, so if it seems a little rough it's normal. I was the daughter of Duke Solon, I thought I was the last child. My elder brother is following in my father's stead. We were never really close. The Lost Life of Laraine
She lead a rather tragic life. The black sheep of her family due to her lack of affinity for fire. Her affinity was quite the opposite. Water in fact. Already in a time when women did not really have much political power or rights, she was outcasted by her family despite being of nobility. Still allowed to live in the distant west wing of the massive Grand Duke's manor, she has never eaten a single meal with her family nor extended family, and has spent her loneliness in her books and sword lessons. Although only taught by the head butler and one of the low ranked knights of the family, she was quite bright and if her family would have given her a chance she would have done great things. If only she didn't die at such a young age. Married off to some "hero" of sort that had slayed the Dragon of the North who was terrorizing the land and threatened the kingdom, this hero also had an affinity for fire and held her in disdain like the rest of her family. Suddenly a girl of another world was transported to their world, picked up by this hero and put into his secure care. The pair soon fell for each other despite the hero's marriage, and many believed Laraine got jealous of this girl of mystery, and tried to kill her. This was definitely not true. But because the girl was favored by the temple and kingdom Laraine was quickly arrested and put on trial. You can probably tell what happened to Laraine. But something strange happened the day of her execution. As soon as her decapitated head hit the ground the sky turned blood red and it began to rain fire. No one survived that day. But for some reason time went back, and Laraine was back to being a child, but with no memory of her future. There were select few in her life, however, that remembered her tragedy and now perhaps will take action to prevent it. NOTE: I'M AWARE THERE ARE A LOT OF INCONSISTENCIES.
