Lan loved Zuko, she really did, but she loved freedom more. She loved the idea of traveling across the nations, sinking her feet into the sands of Ember Island, meeting new people from Ba Sing Se, or maybe even helping the world after all the damage she'd seen from the Fire Nation. She wanted more than an arranged marriage. She wanted so much more than just to be the wife of the future Fire Lord.
So she left and went around the world, exploring all sorts of places, and meeting all sorts of people until she landed on Kyoshi island. There she met Suki and all the other Kyoshi warriors, even becoming one herself. She finally found a place, a home.
Yes, she did love Zuko.
No, she would not let it control her future. After all, who could contain such a free-spirited girl?
