In a dystopian future ravaged by war and corruption, The Last Echo follows the journey of a young man named Barret, who has lost everything. Once a hopeful cadet in an elite military faction, Barret life is shattered when a devastating surprise attack wipes out his entire city, including his family, friends, and everything he held dear. With nothing left but the clothes on his back and the haunting memories of what he's lost, Barret becomes a wandering, vengeful force in a world where power and survival are the only currency. The story takes Barret on a relentless quest for justice, as he uncovers a sinister conspiracy that threatens to collapse what's left of humanity. Fueled by a burning desire for revenge and a deep-seated grief, he teams up with a group of ragtag survivors, each haunted by their own pasts. Together, they fight against a tyrannical regime that controls the world's dwindling resources, using advanced technology and brutal enforcers to keep the masses in line. As Barret pushes forward, the line between hero and antihero blurs. His desire for vengeance leads him to make impossible choices, putting those he cares about in peril, and pushing him further from the person he once was. With each battle, Barret's humanity erodes, and the true cost of revenge becomes all too clear. The brutal world he inhabits leaves no room for redemption, and in the end, Barret must decide whether to become the monster he's fighting against or reclaim the remnants of the hope that once defined him. The action is relentless, filled with high-stakes combat, intense chases through crumbling cityscapes, and mind-bending technology. But it's the emotional weight of Barret's journey - his struggle to hold onto his humanity while confronting his past and his future - that makes this a tragic, pulse-pounding tale of loss, vengeance, and the cost of survival in a broken world.

In a world where 80% of the population has developed unique mutations in their genetic codes, giving them "superpowers", or "quirks", as they call it, it doesn't take long for fantasy and imagination to emerge out of the earth. And further, it doesn't take long for roles of "Heroes" and "Villains" to rise up as well. But... Who coins one as a "hero" or a "villain"...? The person themselves...? Or the people around them...? Light... Dark... Dusk... Dawn... Two sides of the same coin... Twilight... --- Kageyama Kazuma is a 16 year old boy, aspiring to follow his late father's footsteps, and become a hero who saves people. But... Not all can go as planned, or wished, right? So was the case for Kazuma as well, as his quirk soon found itself being held accountable for Kazuma being coined the word "villain" by those around him, before he could even begin his journey to becoming a hero. His only light in this darkness being his mother, is willing to do whatever it takes to keep that smile she treasures so much to never leave the boy's face. But... Being a human at the end of the day, she can only do so much. Follow Kageyama through his journey to becoming one of the greatest heroes in the entirety of Japan. What awaits him on this journey? Friends? Love? Hardships? That's for you to find out. [This is a rework of my first book ever, "What It Means To Be A Hero"] --- I do not own any claims/rights to the My Hero Academia verse, all rights go to Kosei Horikoshi. I only own the original characters I've added to the story, and the arts I add in the book. In case the art doesn't belong to me, I'll credit the said person in the comments. Peace.
