Evan Nash knows how to survive. He's been doing it his entire life-first in a house where love was a distant memory, and now as a single father doing his best to raise three kids while balancing life as a firefighter at Station 118. His world is built on routine and sacrifice, leaving little room for anything else.
But when Eddie Diaz walks into his life, everything changes. Eddie is steady, protective, and understands the weight Buck carries even when he doesn't say a word. Their friendship is easy-natural-but as time passes, lines begin to blur, and Buck finds himself drawn to Eddie in ways that terrify and thrill him.
Just when Buck thinks he might be ready to let someone in, the ghosts of his past come knocking, threatening the fragile family he's built. And as the walls he's spent years constructing start to crumble, Buck is left facing the one thing he's always feared most-what happens when survival isn't enough anymore?
"I know how to survive, Eddie. I've been doing it my whole life. But I don't know how to...be loved. I don't know how to let someone stay."
