"Lady Ivy." I paused. Slowly, I turned my head toward him. Luthiel tilted his head down slightly, watching me with that same unreadable expression. He lowered his voice. "I wished to say this before, but there were too many people." I gave him a look of question. "The next time you wish to avoid someone," he said, his voice even more softer now, just enough to be heard over the distant chatter of the priests, "it would serve you better not to stare first." My breath caught. He noticed. Of course, he did. ▪︎°▪︎°▪︎ I was supposed to be a side character. Ivy Blackwell. The male lead's sister. A tragic loss, a sacrifice-his catalyst for growth. Dead before twenty. It was written in the story. The one I somehow remember. And my death is coming fast. I know why. The author made me an Aether-a rare existence with even more rare healing powers. My death was never just tragedy; it was necessary. And Seraphina, the goddess of fate, has no mercy for threats like me. If she discovers what I am, my scripted ending will become my reality. So I do what I must. I play my part. I act the way I was written mostly. Making sure I keep my power buried, my secrets locked, my fear hidden behind a well-rehearsed smile. It was working. But- Luthiel. The obsessed second male lead. The antagonist. The one person I cannot afford to draw attention from. He has always been nice to me but now, why is he having so much fun from me trying to avoid him?! It's all fun and games until I slip up in front of him. Because if anyone in this world could ruin everything I'm trying to protect... it's him. Especially when my memory conveniently refuses to recall how this story ends.

"No-please-don't do this!" Seraphina sobbed, her voice cracking as she clung to her eldest brother's wrist. "I-I'll be good. I'll do whatever you say, just don't-" A sharp crack echoed through the room as his palm struck her cheek, sending her crashing to the marble floor. Pain exploded across her skin, but it was nothing compared to the terror clawing at her chest. From above, his voice was cold. Unmoved. "You will marry him." She shook her head wildly, crawling backward until her spine hit the wall. "He's a monster," she whispered, her breath shuddering. "He's not human. Please, don't make me do this. I'll die." Her second brother crouched in front of her, grabbing her chin roughly, forcing her to look at him. His lips curled, eyes void of warmth. "Then die." Her breath hitched. "But you will die as his wife." The door behind them creaked open. Heavy footsteps. Her father stepped inside, his expression unreadable. "Lock her in this room," he ordered. "She will not step out until her wedding day." Sera thrashed as hands seized her, dragging her toward the massive iron doors. "No! Please-Father, please!" But he didn't even look at her. The last thing she saw before the door slammed shut was her brothers standing side by side, indifferent as she was thrown into a fate worse than death. Then darkness. And the only thing left was the suffocating truth. She was a sacrifice. A bride to the Sinister, a devil himself. #A STANDALONE BOOK
