Kenneth Phelps is the lead priest at the local church and has strict rules for his family. This leads to his son Travis Phelps to hate his whole being. His problems with his father are bad but he gets to escape at school being the one who pushes people around. Until he meets Sal Fisher or "sally face" a boy with a mask who Travis often fantasizes about despite thinking it's a sin. Due to his love hate for Sal he bullies him and his friends. But Travis and sal get to know each other better and Travis might find someone who is worth sinning for. Sal fisher or "sally face" just moved to the Addison apartments over the summer. He met Larry Johnson his now best friend who introduced him to all his friend's. When school started everything was going smoothly until Travis Phelps the local priests son started bully Sal and his friend's calling them homos and an array of awful things. Despite Travis awful attitude towards sal and his friend's sal tries to befriend Travis and get to the core of his problems After they get close sal might just help Travis find someone who is worth sinning for. Travis Phelps- the homophobic asshole that beat up the outsiders as a way to filter his own self hatred, stuck in an abusive household. He was miserable, gay and being suffocated by the grip of his father's religiousness. Sal Fisher- the new kid in town, the exact thing Travis hated. Gay and transgender, on the outside happy with his life. On the inside, dying from a heart disease and living with a verbally abusive alcoholic father. Both were miserable, though it was hardly obvious to outsiders. They were polar opposites yet the exact same. Brought together by the very same religiousness that was slowly killing them, the two are at first enemies. Though after growing together, they make a decision. They were going to run away.
