This is a story about an 18 year old high school senior named Ava. Ava is a shy and socially awkward girl until she meets Paul. Paul is charming and confident, and he makes Ava feel something she has never felt before.

Ava's sacrifices herself to save Paul during a dangerous confrontation. Her death shows a shocking family secret. In her bloodline, those who die are destined to come back to life. However, Ava's rebirth is far from ordinary. She is almost like a zombie, yet she defies every stereotype associated with the undead, she retains her intelligence, kindness, and sense of self.

Living as "undead" brings some changes:
Her appearance: She has hauntingly beautiful sunken eyes and defined cheekbones that only add to her  charm.
Body temperature: With no blood flow, her icy touch makes her crave warmth, seeking solace in cozy moments.
Pain and pleasure: She experiences life differently now, pain is gone, replaced only by pleasure.
Sleep and the need to eat: Freed from the needs of food or sleep, she embraces the endless hours of her new existence.

Her family calls it being "undead," but Ava begins to see it as a second chance at life.

When Paul discovers the truth, he struggles to accept Ava for who she has become. He begins to love her for who she truly is.
