Campfire sparks

In the early 2000s, cousins Nia and Rykky, both hailing from Oklahoma City, received their acceptance letters to Camp Timber Ridge, a renowned summer camp nestled in the Prescott National Forest of Arizona. The camp, operated by the non-profit organization Teen Round-Up, was dedicated to providing enriching experiences for youth from single-parent or low-income families. 

The journey from Oklahoma City to Prescott spanned over a thousand miles, promising an adventure before the real adventure even began. As the girls boarded the bus chartered by the camp, they felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. The vehicle was filled with other campers from various parts of Oklahoma, all buzzing with anticipation. The rhythmic hum of the engine and the chatter of newfound friends accompanied them as they traversed the changing landscapes-from the flat plains of Oklahoma through the arid expanses of Texas and New Mexico, and finally into the forested terrains of Arizona.
