Prologue
The curse foretold
As dawn breaks, painting the sky in hues of reds, orange, yellows, and pink, zahur Amunet the high young priest of Kemet-Aru finds himself outside the princess's room. His eyes, bloodshot and wild, fixate on the dark violet silk drapes that closed off her room from the rest of the palace. A shudder runs through his body, equal parts perverse desire of power...and equal part desire of possession.
"Sleep well my dear Isera," he whispers, his voice a rasping hiss. "Enjoy your fleeting moments of comfort. Soon, very soon, you'll be on the throne under my control, next to me, right where you belong." With a final, lingering look he shoves the silk out of his way as he hypnotically makes his way out her bed side near the window. He kisses her exposed neck a black lip mark staining there but then disappearing soaking into the skin. A spell of mixed intentions, good and bad helping him plot his next move.
