Nathan Colt is not on Mars to build a new life. He's come to here for one reason only-to find his cousin Noah and bring him home. Noah travelled to Mars seeking adventure and opportunity. But two years later, he's vanished without a trace.

Colt has thirty days before the planetary alignment closes the door home for the next eighteen months. Mars is a dangerous frontier, idealistic settlers mixing uneasily with ruthless opportunists. Following Noah's fading trail north along a route locals grimly call "The Widow's Road," Colt discovers unsettling truths: idealistic colonies disappearing overnight, settlers missing without explanation, and rumours of something hidden deep within the Martian wilderness.

When Colt rescues desperate settlers only to be betrayed, he finds himself forced into survival mode, fighting off corporate mercenaries, bandits-and Mars itself. Time is running out. Colt must uncover the truth and find Noah-dead or alive. On Mars, everyone is a potential victim-and Colt might already be too late.

Who holds the pen that writes reality? Our world is bound by a silent covenant of laws-mathematical, physical, undeniable. But these laws are not graven in stone. They are written in a script that can, under terrible duress, be rewritten. When this happens, the first crime is not against a person, but against existence itself. In the Island State of Blaqountee, this ultimate transgression is unfolding. A nameless dread settles over the streets like fog. The people feel it in their bones: the baseline of 'what is' is shifting beneath them. A memory that three people share-but only two remember. A door that opened east yesterday, opens west today. The city's underworld notices first. When the rules bend, power flows to those who see it happening. They are not facing annihilation. They are facing something older and more patient: erasure. History rewritten. Physical laws negotiated. The architecture of being itself, edited by a hand they cannot see. Multiple lives. Multiple agendas. A shattered criminal mastermind fighting to impose his vision of what must be. Detectives hunting a killer through crimes that defy the logic of cause and effect. Ideologues who believe reality should be rewritten. A survivor who remembers a world no one else does. Each fighting for their vision of what should be real. Each wielding their conviction as a weapon in a war that isn't fought with bullets-it's fought with narratives, competing gospels for a world coming undone. This is the labyrinth. Sanity is the cost of entry. Understanding is the cost of survival. To witness this is to see the terrible machinery behind existence. To choose a side is to become an instrument of ontological murder-or salvation. This is a war for the soul of reality itself. Who will break? Who will endure? And who will finally seize the pen?

Kassi Blake, a ballerina dragged to Mars by her parents, must solve the mystery behind an escalating series of disasters and thwart an ancient guardian spirit to save the colony.**** When seventeen-year-old Kassi Blake's father is chosen by the Joint Space Commission to help terraform the red planet, Kassi gets dragged away with her family to join Mars Colony 1. Mars is a sterile wasteland 33.9 million miles away from home and her dance academy. Heartbroken over sacrificing her ambitions of becoming a prima ballerina for the sake of her father's dream, she has no choice but to make a new life with the limited options available on Mars. She learns the excavation team is accepting applications and takes the opportunity to prove that her physical stamina and grit honed from years of ballet can translate into a new dream - success in one of the most challenging fields Mars offers. Kassi's assigned partner in hunting archaeological treasure is Noah, a former football player and grandson of the habitat's commander. He teases her new friend with the term of endearment, "Goth Girl," he's got a cocky grin that's too cute for his own good (and hers), and she's stuck with him. On their initial dig, they unearth prehistoric cave drawings and pottery emblazoned with a mysterious symbol. When the habitat's hull breaches during a freak sandstorm that vanishes as quickly as it came, Kassi sees that the walls of their compound now bear that same strange symbol. With the colony's commanders in denial that this was something more than a natural disaster, Kassi and Noah team up to unravel the mystery of the symbol and discover who - or what - attacked their new home. The next disaster targets the greenhouse. Then the habitat's oxygen circulation system fails. With dwindling food stores and air supply, Kassi and Noah must confront an ancient force before it wipes out the entire community. 1st Place winner - Science Fiction Category, Winter 2021 Four Seasons Awards.
