The difference between our generation and our parents' generation has always been a problem, especially when they are over protective. Sometimes having siblings can help a little. But, when your only sibling is an angel who only you can see, it can do you no good. She spent her whole life learning how to stay silent. Raised in a strict Indian household, she grew up believing that freedom was a luxury and love was a danger. Between her parents' rules, their quiet partialities, and the constant fear of disappointing them, she learned to shrink herself, study harder than everyone, and hide her tears behind closed doors. And somewhere else, miles away from her world, lived a man who trusted nothing-not people, not promises, not the comfort of sleep. Life had taught him that the closer someone got, the quicker they left, so he built walls around himself and called it discipline. He wasn't cruel, but he was distant, the kind of person who kept conversations short and emotions shorter. Even in professional spaces he pushed people away, convinced that staying alone was safer than being disappointed again.Complete

Under the Moonlight
This is my first ever serious attempt at creative writing. I wanted to write about the struggles of being a first generation American and the experiences of growing up with immigrant parents. However, I wanted to offer a more hopeful outlook for the parent-child relationship dynamics as one moves into adulthood. I know that a lot of people won't necessary identify with this premise, but I hope that you will still be able to enjoy it nonetheless.
