Nothing really happens to the Sandrana siblings. Sure, they have to rush someone to the hospital once a week for some reason or another, and nobody has a regular sleep schedule, but hey, every family has its quirks. They work with what little they have and rarely do any unnecessary acts of kindness, and that's worked just fine for them so far. Lauren starts to feel like something is wrong; missing from their lives. Didn't she used to have more brothers than this? Surely not, because people don't just disappear without so much as a memory left to honor them. Nothing ever really happens to the Sandrana siblings, till the supernatural decides to do something irreversible.
