Eighteen-year-old Jace Carter is a certified lost cause. At least, that's what every teacher in the stagnant, hyper-polished town of Ardenview says. He's failing every class, practically lives in the detention hall, and has a "screw it" attitude that keeps him completely isolated. But Jace doesn't care about fitting into their perfect molds. He has a one-track mind and an absolute desperation to get out, start a band, and make it big.

Music isn't just a hobby-it's the exit sign glowing in the dark. But a revolution can't survive on a single runaway dreamer.

To make enough noise to get noticed, Jace recruits the most chaotic, unlikely crew of misfits hiding from their own "perfect" expectations: a politician's son who pounds the drums like he's breaking chains, a cheerleader who'd rather vanish into her bass than wear a fake smile, and a brilliant, awkward nerd who plays keys like he's daring the world to notice.

Together in Room 404-the abandoned school music room no one is supposed to use-they find a family they never expected and a sound that feels like absolute freedom. But as their underground reputation grows, so does the target on their backs. With the school administration threatening to lock the room for good, the band is faced with a choice: fall in line, or risk everything on one dangerous, loud live show.
