The suitcase stood between them like a verdict.
Ranvijay didn't raise his voice. He didn't have to. The distance in his eyes said everything words would have ruined.
"You need to leave," he said.
Ada waited for the sentence to soften. For a reason. For a lie she could cling to.
Nothing came.
She nodded once, slowly - the way people do when they realise the fight ended long before they showed up to it.
She picked up the suitcase. It was lighter than she expected. Funny how quickly a place could stop being yours.
Ranvijay turned away as she reached the door.
That hurt more than if he'd watched.
Ada paused. Not because she hoped he'd stop her - but because endings deserved to be faced.
She looked at him one last time.
Her voice didn't shake.
"I'll go," she said quietly.
"But remember this - the day you decided I was easy to lose...
was the day you lost the only person who would have burned the whole world just to stay."
The silence after her words was unbearable. Even the house seemed to wait, as if it understood what was being unmade.
Ada adjusted her grip on the suitcase, then added - softer, almost tender:
"ʏᴏᴜ ʟᴏᴠᴇᴅ ᴍᴇ ʙᴇꜱᴛ ᴡʜᴇɴ ɪ ᴡᴀꜱ ɢᴇɴᴛʟᴇ," ꜱʜᴇ ꜱᴀɪᴅ.
"ᴅᴏɴ'ᴛ ʙᴇ ꜱᴜʀᴘʀɪꜱᴇᴅ ʙʏ ᴡʜᴀᴛ ꜱᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴇꜱ ᴡɪᴛʜᴏᴜᴛ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ᴍᴇʀᴄʏ."
She wiped her last tear which had fallen and stepped out.
The door closed.
And for the first time, Ranvijay felt it - not relief, not grief -
but the quiet certainty
that whatever walked away tonight
would never come back the same.
