During feudal era japan, demons see humans as inferior or prey. However, not all demons are this way; some form friendships with humans, sometimes more. The famed Kirin demon, Kentsuyoshi, was rumored to have fallen in love with a human woman, Misetsu. Kentsuyoshi went into hiding, Misetsu along with him. While in hiding, Kentsuyoshi and Misetsu married and became with child. But during the pregnancy, Misetsu fell ill. Kentsuyoshi became desperate, searching for cure to save his love and unborn child. close to giving up, he hears of a powerful half-demon who he believed would help him. The half-demon, Naraku, agrees to save Misetsu and her baby, but for a price. When their child turns 18, they are to be given to Naraku as reward for saving Misetsu. Kentsuyoshi accepts, sealing their child's fate.
