Nintendo is one of the largest video game companies, being the powerhouse of games all across america and other countries worldwide. they had many loved franchises, that being the super Mario Brothers, and an up and coming adventure game by the simple name of the games protagonist, Rana. Nintendo's quality games and consoles earned them such a title rightfully, but for their CEO, a woman by the name of Usotsuki Akuma, the company needed more. they couldn't just be 'one of' the biggest, no. they needed to be THE biggest companies. and to do that, they needed to exceed expectations. whether that be to buy existing franchises and market them as their own, or rework classic games to be more lifelike in a sense. and perfect way to achieve the latter, to give the characters a real soul...a soul from their creators.
