The story begins after the episode "Missio". Gannicus and Melitta are doing their best to face their feelings for one another, but they are finding it impossible to return explosive emotions to dust and shadow now that they have been unleashed. After Gannicus becomes the object of one Roman's obsessive lust, the gladiator finds himself more deeply embroiled in Batiatus' ambitious plans to become the lanista to Rome's elite. And as he becomes true champion of Capua and the House of Batiatus, Gannicus must learn to navigate his new reality of being desired for more than his swords. He finds comfort and joy where he can, discovering new friendships and relationships along the way. This is Gannicus' story as I wish it had been told.
