Since I can remember, spirits have been woven into the fabric of my world. My great-grandmother used to whisper that she had passed down a rare gift-one I always believed was more of a curse. I'd tell her it had shattered my life, and honestly, I wasn't far off. Growing up with the ability to see the unseen meant I never knew what it was to be truly normal. No friends, no social life-just me and my dad, especially after my mom's passing a year ago. That's when my gift intensified: I could sense and feel the emotions of others, and with a single touch, I could unravel their entire life story-the triumphs, the tragedies, everything they tried to hide. Almost nothing stays secret from me-except my mom. No matter how much I try, she remains a ghost I've never seen, no matter how desperate I am to find her.
If that wasn't enough to make me stand out, our family owns a funeral home, and I work in the mortuary. It's a job that feels almost preordained-after all, I've embalmed, cremated, and prepared nearly every soul in town. Yet, beneath the surface, fear lurks: the dread of having to do that for someone I love. The thought haunts me-except, they never found my mom's body, so I've been spared that nightmare... so far.
But everything is about to change.
Enter Thane Knight-the most captivating guy I've ever laid eyes on. His wit, charm, and magnetic presence draw me in, and unexpectedly, he becomes one of my closest friends. I'm falling-hard-and fast. Yet, as I peel back the layers of his smile, I begin to sense he's hiding something. A secret that could threaten to unravel everything I believe about him-and myself.
Now, I find myself caught in a dangerous game-treading the line between love, deception, and the restless spirits that refuse to stay silent.
This is a story of love and loss, buried secrets, and ghosts that refuse to fade. And I'm about to discover that sometimes, the most terrifying truths are hiding right in plain sight.

Being engrossed in studying his current case detained him from leaving at once until he forgot the time. He never mentioned to Hera that he's going home after two decades. Only his youngest child knows of his trip back home.
Whether he believes in curse or not. It's his 45th birthday tomorrow and he must be home to keep his promise to his mother. His family had never forsaken him, he did. He'd been ignoring their summons since he turned his back from them. Perhaps it's time to grant their plea.
He closes his office and walks to the elevator.
"Good evening, Artemis." The man in a black jacket greets him.
Artemis smiles at the stranger. "Do I know you?"
The stranger puts his arm around the stunned lawyer. Behind the unknown man's dark glasses are bloodshot eyes ready to scare the wits out of his prey.
"Your mother does. She's expecting me to greet you happy birthday." Removing his dark glasses, he stares at his victim to corrupt his eyes.
Insurmountable fear assaults Artemis as excruciating pain drills on his eyeballs. A horrible scream slits through the silence of the night when the clock strikes twelve.
As the elevator opens, the stranger loosens his grip and the victim falls on the floor. Covering his bleeding eyes, Artemis winces from severe pain.
The man whistles away as he walks past the dead body of the security guard in the lobby to the snowy road outside the building. His victim crawls out of the closing elevator.
The curse is true. He must get into his car before his sight totally leaves him. He must warn his family.
" I must save Athena!"
