There was blood on my favorite jacket. I hadn't washed it.
Couldn't.
It was still balled up in the bottom of my closet, stuffed under a pile of clothes I hadn't touched since Germany. The red stains had gone dark by now. Dried. But I could still smell it if I got close enough-metallic, sharp, like pennies and cold rain.
I stared at it every night before I forced myself to sleep. I told myself I wouldn't forget. Wouldn't move on. Wouldn't heal.
I didn't want to heal.
I wanted revenge.
And then something inside me snapped.
