Malia Baker, a 17-year-old girl from Vancouver, has just transferred to a new school and is moving in with the Cantralls, a wealthy and seemingly perfect family. Alex and Carol Cantrall, well-established in their community, welcome Malia into their home with open arms, offering her a safe place to stay as she transitions to her new life.

However, their daughter, Kylie Cantrall, isn't thrilled about having Malia around. She's immediately cold toward her new "housemate," pushing Malia away and making it clear that she'd rather be left alone.
