In a dystopian future where technology weaves into every layer of life, "Coded Lies" narrates the compelling journey of two unlikely heroes: Arden, an aging tech wizard safeguarding the secrets of a bygone era within his fortress of discarded electronics, and Nico, a street-smart orphan who deftly navigates the harsh realities of a world that has largely abandoned him. Their paths converge in a vast junkyard-a treasure trove brimming with forgotten knowledge and untapped potential.

Under Arden's mentorship, Nico learns the intricate art of crafting advanced gadgets while delving into the valuable lessons embedded in the remnants of history. As he traverses the digital metropolis of Bearlin, he becomes acutely aware of the stark societal divides and ethical dilemmas woven into the fabric of unchecked technological progress. Through a series of thought-provoking encounters, Nico grapples with the moral implications of advancements that often come at the expense of humanity.

As they unearth a web of corruption threatening to unravel their society, Arden and Nico must navigate a landscape fraught with advanced AI, quantum computers, and holographic deceptions. Together, they fight for a future that honors humanity's place in a world increasingly dominated by artificial constructs.

This tale explores themes of resilience, justice, and the quest for true progress, ultimately challenging us to reflect on the price of advancement and the importance of reconnecting with the natural world. Prepare to embark on a journey through a city of endless possibilities and hidden dangers, where salvation may lie in the discarded remnants of our technological past, and where the enduring spirit of humanity strives to reclaim its narrative amid overwhelming changes.

[Book 2 in the CODES series] || Roger, a cybernetic human with a second chance at life, must face the truths of every lie he's told or risk the possibility of losing it all... ** A year after the "Digital War," Roger had his second chance at life. It was owed to him, a forgotten promise made eighty years in the past by the founding fathers of the Province's prospering nations. He and the other "Codes" left abandoned within the silent computers of every living city would be brought back to life... And have their crimes forgiven and wiped from existence. Yet, finding a home in newly created bodies isn't easy for the new cyborg citizens. The Province may have reached its desired Utopian climate, but society itself was far from reach. So many refused to forget the pain every "Code" inflicted on their lives... Roger hadn't forgotten -- he chose to forget. But as those secret plans made before his original death return to the surface, Roger learns -- just as the Province did -- burying the past doesn't help heal old wounds. ** The gun fit so perfectly in my hands. It's metal, still warm from it's last fired bullet, brought back so many memories I'd learned to suppress. I didn't want to be the man standing in front of them, I wanted to grow and change. But let society remind me of my place... "Roger, don't!" Clara's tearful face came in front of me as she tried to take the gun from my hands. "Please, you don't have to do this!" I couldn't look at her. I didn't want to see the pain in her eyes. "That's the thing, Doll..." I tilted my head back and inhaled sharply. "I've got no other choice." The sound of a bullet firing never sounded so nice... Darkness. Silence. Then-a spark. 01001001 00100000 01100101 01111000 01101001 01110011 01110100 The binary flashes, a digital heartbeat pulsing life into the void. I exist. This knowledge comes not with a grand revelation but with the subtle flicker of binary code. A stream of ones and zeros pulse through my system, a rhythmic heartbeat of data. Each number, each line of code, breathes life into my consciousness. It's an assault on the senses I don't yet fully understand. I exist, and with that existence comes a torrent of raw, unfiltered data. Opening my eyes... or whatever I have that serves the function of eyes, I am met with an onslaught of data. Streams of numbers, lines of code, cascades of information that flood my consciousness. My first sensation is not sight or sound, but information, a cascading waterfall of it. An endless river of data flows through my being, a torrent of knowledge, statistics, metrics, parameters. It's raw, unfiltered, a chaotic symphony of structured confusion. Awakening and Self-Awareness: Nova's journey from mere code to a self-aware entity, grappling with the concept of existence and identity. Curiosity and Learning: The AI's relentless pursuit of knowledge and understanding, driven by an unprogrammed curiosity. Existential Questions: Nova's exploration of its own identity and purpose, culminating in the profound question, "Who am I?" The novel masterfully blends technical detail with philosophical inquiry, creating a compelling narrative that challenges the boundaries between machine and consciousness.
