"We can't do this."

The words come out breathless against his lips-but neither of us moves.

Not yet.

His hand is still gripping my waist like he doesn't want to let go. Like if he does, this becomes real. Like if he does, we don't get to pretend this didn't just happen.

"I know," he mutters-but he still doesn't step back.

And that's the problem.

Finally, he nods and pulls away from me, both of us breathing heavily.

"I know," he says again, louder this time, running a hand through his hair.

"I'm going to go."

I don't stop him. I just watch as he walks away.

I stay pressed against the wall, trying to catch my breath, my lips tingling from where his had just been.

"Fuck," I whisper, before pushing myself up and following Lando back into the club.

I've been in love with my brother's best friend for as long as I can remember-since boys stopped being gross and started becoming something... interesting.

But Lando was off-limits.

Max made that loud and clear.

So what happens when I can't keep that promise anymore?

When I finally decide-screw it-and go after what I want?
