Cressida and Kaius had been inseparable since childhood, their bond forged through countless hours of laughter, adventure, and friendly competition. They were each other's confidants, partners in crime, and most trusted friends. Their favorite pastime was engaging in heated matches of tag, hide-and-seek, or board games, always pushing each other to be their best. The thrill of victory was sweeter with the other person around to share it with. But life had other plans. One day, without warning, Cressida's family packed up their belongings and moved to a new mansyon on the other side of town. Cressida was torn between excitement for the new adventure and sadness at leaving behind the only friend she had ever known. In the chaos of the move, she didn't get a chance to say goodbye to Kaius, and the thought of not being able to play together anymore filled her with dread. Kaius, on the other hand, was devastated. He had grown accustomed to Cressida's presence in his life, and her sudden disappearance left a gaping hole. He felt abandoned and hurt that she hadn't come to say goodbye or even mention the move. The promise they had made to always be there for each other seemed hollow now. Cressida and Kaius finally met again after a long time apart. But their reunion was bittersweet, as they were bound together by marriage on paper. Cressida was initially thrilled to see Kaius again, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. However, her joy was short-lived as she noticed a drastic change in Kaius's demeanor. The Kaius she once knew was gone, replaced by a person who seemed perpetually unhappy. His smile was nowhere to be seen, and his face was often shrouded in a scowl. Cressida couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness, wondering what had caused such a transformation in the person she once knew and loved. The first in the Gone trilogy. ❝People change. Memories don't. ❞ I had that one person. That one person who would be my brightness in the dullest of days (trust me, there were a lot) just by gracing me with his presence. The frown that was permanently etched on my face would always seemingly dissipate into the happiness I felt when we'd meet up, running into his arms like he was my safe place. Everyone expected him to have someone, but no one thought it'd be me. No one wanted it to be me. Looking back on it now, it seemed like a typical love story. Him, the kind and gentle-hearted boy and I, the rude and cold-hearted girl. He wasn't kind, he wasn't gentle-hearted because if he was, then he wouldn't have left. Without a word. His lack of words towards me doesn't mean that I'm left speechless. In fact, I have a thousand words wanting to just slip off my tongue right this moment. Just because he's gone.
