She's cold, sharp-witted and endlessly sarcastic, never letting him get away with his brooding. He finds her infuriatingly perceptive, always seeming to know what he's thinking before he even says a word. She, in turn, finds him stubborn, frustratingly closed-off, and incapable of taking her advice in the field.
Their clashes start as petty disagreements over missions, training sessions that always escalate into near-brawls, and arguments over strategy. But underneath all the barbed comments and tense standoffs, there's an undeniable heat neither of them wants to acknowledge. The closer they're forced to work together, the more their resistance to each other begins to crack.
When a mission goes south and they find themselves stranded behind enemy lines, they have no choice but to rely on one another. And as secrets unravel and Bucky starts seeing Valerie for who she truly is-someone who has her own demons, her own past she's been running from-he realizes that maybe the reason she drives him crazy isn't because he hates her. Maybe it's because she's the only one who makes him feel alive.
