A Medusa Story

Some monsters are made, not born.

In the dim glow of a streetlamp, a young Kelly Daniels sat on the cold steps of her Aunt Lorraine's house, knees drawn to her chest, the echo of her own heartbeat drowning out the cicadas' song. Fourteen and fragile, she had summoned the courage to speak her truth, only to be met with disbelief and scorn.

"Fast-tailed girls like you always looking for attention," Lorraine's words had cut deeper than any blade.

The door had closed, but the walls of silence had begun to build.
