Pollux has always been a part of the most powerful empire in the multiverse, it was her little secret. After saving the empire and leading it forwards after a war, the Sapphire and Diamond War, and their Emperor's absence, the Emperor began to show interest in her after he came back.
After some seemingly disconnected trials and the Emperor's interest in talking with her, she began to wonder if he was training her to take his place so that he could retire finally after all these years.
