Twenty-four year old firefighter, Brenna Ray Nash, moves to the big city of LA to be closer to her Father, and hopefully make a new life for herself again. She moved away when she was eighteen, and didn't look back. She missed her Father everyday and they of course kept in contact with each other, but they both knew that they'd go back to where they left off, and both couldn't wait. What Brenna didn't expect, was to have a whole new family waiting for her at the firehouse she was transferring to. She hadn't made many friends in the years she'd been gone, she mostly kept to herself. That was until the crew at the 118 made it their lives mission to get her out of her comfort zone, and for her to open up.

"My last breath will be your name, Emma." Buck breathed, before gently placing his lips on hers. On the surface, Emma Riley is a typical 32 year old workaholic. She is a medical doctor at Kindred Hospital in L.A. However, Emma works so much to keep the memory of what happened to her buried deep inside. She does not let her mind wonder to the patch of mountain where the wild red roses grow. The day started like any other Wednesday. That is until she runs into a handsome fire fighter crunched over in a quiet hall. Evan Buckley was there for his friend, Eddie. Eddie had been shot while on a call. Over the next few weeks, Emma and Buck bond. After Eddie's release, Buck can't shake the memory of Emma. Emma also felt a connection with Buck. However, in order to move on with her life, she must face the memories and reality of what happened to her.

The 118 respond to a call for a house fire, and rescue five victims from inside of the house. When one of the victims is admitted to the hospital unconscious, the doctors and nurses that were on her case, realize that she has more problems that simply burns and smoke inhiliation. The authorities are called, and eventually Sargent Athena Grant arrives for statements and evidence. When Athena enters the victim's room, she noticed exactly who was laying in the bed unconscious. This girl was the daughter of one of her high school best friend. The girl had gone missing eight years ago, when she was only twelve years old. Her mother was desperate, and though she hadn't seen Athena since they had graduated high school, she went to the one person that would help her find her daughter. Athena did everything in her ability, but the case went cold, and no more leads came in. Her case was put on a back burner, for everyone else, except for Athena. Four years ago, Athena's high school friend passed away, some would say from a heart attack, but Athena believed it was a broken heart. Since the woman had passed away, that left nobody looking for the girl, other than Athena. With nobody left, that meant the girl had no family to go to once she was released. Not only did Athena need answers as to what happened to the girl eight years ago, as well as what happened all the years she was away, but she also had to give the girl a place to stay. His firehouse gets a call of a reported house fire and the only person saved is a small kid named Evan Buckley. Without any family willing to take him, and the police unable to locate his sister, Bobby gets clearance to give the child a roof over his head.
