It's been three years since Luz returned home. The portal is open, allowing travel between the human realm and the Boiling Isles, and Luz is preparing to attend Hexside University with her friends by her side-and Amity by her heart.
Everything seems to be falling into place... until a surprise changes everything.
Lucia, Luz's older sister, returns after six years in the army. She's not the same girl who left-she's closed-off, scarred, and carrying secrets no one talks about. At the same time, Amelia Blight reenters her sister's life after years at a mysterious boarding school, hardened and unpredictable.
