In an alternate world, the Philippines never existed as a unified nation but of kingdoms, each with its own ruler. Everything changed when a member of the noble class with the help of his allies sought to overthrow the kingdoms to establish a unified nation under one government. Diosdado Gatmaitan married his son to the daughter of Rajah Sulayman, a powerful and respected ruler among the kingdoms to create an alliance and gain the support and trust of the royal families. 
Though his efforts to abolish the royals failed, it led to the formation of a country known as Bagumbayan, governed by Diosdado Gatmaitan and his political party, Sinagtala. Soon Diosdado passed on his leadership to his son, Dionisio.
