Cornelia Ocina, a hardworking Filipina, has spent three years living in the quiet town of Berkersheim in Frankfurt. She works long hours as a waiter, sending most of her earnings back home to give her sisters in the Philippines a chance at a better, easier life. For Cornelia, everything she does is for her family.

Life is simple, predictable-until she meets Rio, a quiet and charming newcomer at the restaurant. He's polite, a little reserved, and doesn't talk much about his life. Still, there's something about him that draws Cornelia in, even though she doesn't quite understand why.

She doesn't know it yet, but Rio is carrying a secret that could change the life Cornelia thought she had under control.
