The book focuses on the adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles "Tails" Prower, Paige Wachowski, Penny Lewis, Amy Rose, Knuckles the Echidna, Savannah Monroe, Grace Delainey, and newcomer Sticks the Badger. They reside in a tropical jungle, interacting with its unique denizens and spending time with old friends while having to fend off or begrudgingly tolerate the presence of Doctor Eggman and his henchmen. Each chapter mainly features a stand-alone plot and comedic elements.

Sonic spotted Sticks' weird contraption which obviously interested him in finding out what it is. He headed toward the weird object, Amy followed too. One day, a group of humans, led by Rouge the Bat, comes to the Island and takes Shadow with them to New York, where he meets Sonic, an energetic and mean but insecure blue hedgehog who's popular in the High School he's enrolled in. Though Shadow will later learn that Sonic is being targetted by his ex, Scourge the hedgehog, for a sin he committed long ago.
