Hello everyone! This is the prologue and first chapter of a YA fantasy novel I'm writing. The main character is a teenage girl named Nixen who wants nothing more than to live safely and happily with her adoptive mother, Valaria. However, things start to get strange when a magical cat who bears an odd resemblance to an extinct magical creature bonds with Nixen. At the same time, thousands of children and babies in Nixen's world inexplicably stop growing up. As Nixen grapples with her struggle to find a true home, she starts to realize that the mysteries haunting her world may be interconnected...Things in this book that may interest you: epic fantasy, female protagonist, funny main character, original magic system, original magical creatures, romance subplot, and a matriarchal world. I will post at least one chapter per week once I've finished my second draft, but hopefully up to 3 chapters per week. I want to grow the fanbase for this novel as large as possible, so if you find the beginning of this story entertaining at all, please follow my account and vote on this book. 'Who would want her' she thought as she took a step away from the area Until a firm shout was called out of the crowd "5...hundred gold coins" he raised his hand while female turns around to see his bagged money already in the tradesman's hand. He pushes the container to him with the girl, screaming. She grins at this stupid idea and ran off "This is stupid, Y/n" She gather her crew to sent sail in a couple of minutes. She pulls one of her excitement smile on for the crowd to see. "I know, but it could help us with mother's sickness" She steers away off the deck and into the ocean with her crewmen scattering around her "What if you don't come back" Y/n peered down slowly to see the necklace with a piece of diamond tied around it, she looks back up clutching it with one hand. "I promise I'll come back" ---- "Come look, boss!" Joey came running into my room as I got up ASAP. I could see my mother already getting the treatment she needs for sickness to go away, but what if it was a false alarm as usual. I took slowest time ever because I been through this a multiple times. I emerged myself out in the open, squinting my eyes for the sun to hit my face immediately. I didn't want to find out my whole life was a lie. I just wanted a bloody promotion. Guess fate had other plans? **** The cold air fanned over my face as I opened the door. The exit door lead to the back of the building so it was pitch black. I leaned against the wall trying to control myself. Blood was running down my arm and head. He knows who I am. He knows how I look like. He knows where I work so possible knows where I live. I am not safe anymore... no where. While I was in my own world I heard faint sounds behind me but I didn't bother to look or run away. The footsteps got closer and I was pretty sure it was Walker's men. I should run. I should try to fight. But what's the point in trying to run away? He would eventually find me and if he has his way he would most likely kill me. If this is my fate then why am I trying to fight it? I felt someone harshly grab my waist and pull me up and I complied. They dragged me down the alley and into the busy street. I heard the opening of a car and the next thing I knew I was being thrown into a car. My head hit the hard leather seat and the door shut behind me. Maybe this is how my life will end. Gabe can be kinda annoying and Jay doesn't talk much, but for Aspen's first friends they are perfect. When Jay reveals a scheme that changes Aspen's life forever, they help her escape the castle. They are now on a mission: to stop her sister, and save the kingdom. What she is planning, not even Aspen knows. I would also like to credit my friend who helped me write this.
