In this world, we awaken as spirits, the manifestation of a concept or element most closely tied to our soul. Essence is what drives us, like our very energy or being itself. Someone hellbent on finding out what happens after spirits die formed an organization to extract essence and study it, trying to find out how to kill the essence itself.
