Aster in Greek means "star". They are in the daisy family and are notable for their starburst arrangement of bright petals, which most often surround a yellow center
While asters can be aggressive growers and difficult to remove, they are generally not considered invasive in most regions. Invasive plants disrupt ecosystems by crowding out native species, altering food webs, and destroying wildlife habitat. Asters, especially native species, support a variety of beneficial insects and are crucial for the eastern forest food web.
