Valentine's death leaves her daughters Sabrina and Maria with unanswered questions - why had she kept them separated their whole lives? If not for fate's intervention, they might not have ever found each other. For Maria, a heavy burden is lifted with her mother's passing. Valentine's journal sends Sabrina back to the Davenport brothers as she desperately searches for the truth behind her daughter's death. Maria finally has the answer to why Valentine abandoned her and then came back. Except the truth is uglier than she could have imagined. It startles and frightens her.
