Silently Drowning

17-year-old Layla has been abused by her mother and her older twin siblings for as long as she can remember.

Layla was born without a voice box. It is a rare deformity to happen, but she ended up with it. She doesn't remember her father but knows that he walked out on them when she was two.

Her mother and older siblings blame her for her father's departure, and she blames herself.

Her mother has made her sleep in the basement for all her life. She is expected to clean and cook, but no matter what she does it is never enough.

Kids at school bully her for not being able to talk.
