Dr. Ivy Lim was an invaluable attending to Gaffney-Chicago Medical Center. During her fellowship there, she and three other doctors studied retrieval medicine and learned to face obstacles as an elite team. Seven years later, she returned to Pittsburgh.
Her estranged biological mother, still in prison, was suffering from end-stage kidney failure. Ivy expected that Mother would pass away quietly, that it would proceed without a funeral, and then return to Chicago like nothing had happened. She promised to Gloria that she would only stay for a year. And she would cover the ED and all adult ICU--because she could face anything.
