Texas, of all places this was where that bastard had to send me. My third house in a year, it's hard to believe this one will be better. The 126 has a reputation all its own and I can't tell if it's good or bad.

"You can come in Buckley, I don't bite." He gave me a little smile as I slowly walked in, sitting across from him. "How are you healing up? I know you're cleared for duty but that doesn't necessarily mean you're up to it."

"It looks worse than it is. The bruises are mostly faded. I have a makeup bag in the car, I can cover them if you'd like?" My hands traveled to my yellow and green bruises, a parting gift from my last house.

"No I just wanted to make sure you're alright. Your old captain refused to tell me what happened and why he was so eager to part with the best medic in the department." He gave me a concerned look before I sighed.

"I'm not surprised, his guys are the ones who did it." I scoffed looking up at the Captain who gave me this horrified expression.

"They beat you? Is it because of the hijab? Why didn't the police do something?" I shook my head sighing.

"It's a veil not a hijab, I only wear it when I'm dealing with anything stressful or I'm not at home. You can see my hair, well if I like you you can. It's a pagan thing, they didn't like that so it's part of it. Between the queer thing and then that-it was a bad exit." I took a deep breath trying to laugh it off. "The sheriff is the brother of the Lieutenant in that house so that's why I fell down some stairs-repeatedly."

"So that's horrific, and I also really want to see your hair now. Not in a creepy controlling way, in the way that I really want you to like me. We have all kinds at this house Buckley, you're safe and you're welcome here." He gave me a smile trying to ease my mind, and it was working. I felt a lot better.
