In a world where people are bound to marks of fate, determining who their soulmates are for eternity. Between the ages of 15-18 a person will get a mark on their hand that signifies they have a soulmate. Atsushi Nakajima has just recently joined the ADA, adapting himself to his new life. As his old life, the one in the orphanage kept him very sheltered from the rest of the world. When he sees a foreign mark on a Port Mafia member's hand, he wonders what it could be, and why he was the only one seeing it.

The amount of detail the mark has shows how good their mental health is. Say someone has a extremely breathtaking mark, absolutely stunning. Their soulmate is in mental agony. The more beautiful the mark, the more hurt their soulmate is. Not only will they have a mark connecting them to their soulmate, they can also feel each other's pain. Once both people turn 17, which can take years saying their could be a large age gap, they both can feel the physical pain something could inflict on them. Say one of them breaks their arm, the other wouldn't have a broken arm as well, they would simply be feeling the exact same amount of pain the other is feeling.
