Unveiled Promises

A light was on upstairs. The balcony door was open.
And then he saw her - a figure barely moving, framed in rain and quiet devastation.
He didn't hesitate. He ran through the garden, hands grabbing the wet metal of the trellis as he climbed. He didn't care that he was soaked, or that the world had shrunk to this one moment.
When he stepped onto the balcony, she didn't turn.
"Arushi," he said, voice soft but heavy.
She didn't respond.
"Why did you call me?" he asked, almost whispering. "What happened?"
Still, silence. She stared out into the storm.
He stepped closer. Carefully.
"Say something," he murmured.
Nothing.
And that silence - that cold wall between them - cracked something inside him.
Without another word, he reached for her. His hands slid to her face, gentle but insistent. And he kissed her.
It wasn't planned. It wasn't even wise. But it was real - born of panic, confusion, aching, and something he'd buried far too long.
For a second, she was still.
Then... she kissed him back.
It was soft at first, then deeper. Her fingers curled into the front of his shirt. She let him in - just for that moment - with her lips, with her body, with all the pain she hadn't put into words.
But just as suddenly, she pulled away.
Her eyes searched his face, full of something fragile - fear.
