What if Penelope was one of the gems of the season...

After Mr Colin Bridgerton cruel words said at the Featherington Ball, Penelopes already low chance of marriage became even lower.

It did not help that Lady Whistledown wrote about it. But what did Mr Bridgerton think with saying it so loud for all to hear?

Especially Miss Penelope Featherington.

Colin did not have the time to apologise to his dearest friend Pen. He tried writing letters but he never got an answer.

Penelope returned to Mayfair with a new mindset and no Bridgerton to spend her days with after her heartbreaking fight with Eloise.

Lady Featherington was happy that her youngest one is with her, in their home after marrying off her two oldest.

Penelope was less thrilled with the notion. She needs a husband.

Colin is ready to right his wrong.

He shall help Penelope find a husband, it will be easy.

Especially when the Queen saw something special in his Pen.

What could go wrong?

I do not own any of these characters. (Obviously)

This fanfic started because I kept thinking "If no one else writes the fic I want, I'll have to do it myself."

TW: Straight people. (I know I'm ashamed too. But Polin really just does things to me.)

After a night of wonder under flowers and fireworks, Penelope Featherington thought she was on top of the world. Things seemed to go perfectly for once in her life. Until, her best friend discovers something she's been hiding for years. And to top it all off she overhears a conversation she was never meant to hear. And for the first time in her life Penelope truly feels like she's alone in the world. Penelope must look inside herself and decide once and for all if she will continue her usual wallflower ways or if it's time for her to step into the spotlight and claim the life she has always dreamed of having. Colin Bridgerton was, in his own estimation, perfectly happy being single. He enjoyed the occasional dance with the beautiful debutantes and his charming ways lead him to be quite a flirt. However he knew deep down it meant nothing. He was not in search of a wife, in fact he wasn't even ready to entertain the idea of finding one. He did however find himself involved in a rather deep and genuine friendship with one, Miss Penelope Featherington. But when his own foolish remarks threaten to ruin there relationship forever, he must decide whether he can let her go or if there is maybe something he hadn't seen in her before. Could Prince Charming (or rather Mr. Charming) truly set aside his rakish ways for one wallflower? Or will the secrets she's hiding tear them even farther apart? What happens when a wallflower blossoms?

We begin two days after the Featherington Ball, when Colin finally realizes his feelings towards Penelope. But he's also realized that he is not worthy of her love. He has hurt her again and again, so what else can he do but step away and allow her to find happiness without him? Meanwhile, Penelope has burned so many times, and she has decided she's had enough. It's time to rise from the ashes and become the person she's always wanted to be, perhaps even earn the forgiveness of those she loves in the process. But are her mistakes too great to overcome? Are there any words that can erase what these two have done?
