Elara, an orphaned stablehand in the crumbling kingdom of Eldoria, exists on the fringes of a society suffocating under its own history. The Whispering Woods, a contiguous forest blanketing Eldoria for centuries, hums with a power the dwindling royal line claims to understand but clearly doesn't. Elara harbors a secret: she hears the Woods, not in a clear, prophetic voice, but in the subtle shifts of wind, the patterns of falling leaves, the frantic scratches of burrowing animals - a chaotic symphony that induces debilitating migraines.

When the woods begin to sicken, casting literal and metaphorical shadows across Eldoria, the kingdom's scholars - more comfortable with dusty tomes than practical solutions - decree it divine retribution. They propose the tired ritual of sacrificing a "pure" soul to appease the forest's ire. Elara, ostracized and distrusted, is a prime candidate.
