Mark knows that. He knows it when he kneels alone in his cold chamber at night, hands clasped, lips cracked from relentless prayers. He knows it when the wax of the candles slowly solidifies on the silver candelabras, as if even time itself is trapped here. And he knows it most of all when Yuta looks at him-too long, too intensely, as if his gaze cuts through flesh and bone, touching something that must not be touched.

But if God sees everything, why does He remain silent?
