Kaia works for an organized, well respected and feared mafia. She's leader of her own gang of women. And on what was supposed to be a simple hit on a drug dealer, she picks up a stray. Renaming her new pet, Phoenix and bringing her home.
The problem?
Kaia's new pet is a human woman named Birdie, who was kept captive by the very man Kaia was sent to kill. After saving her from the house of horrors, Kaia feels responsible for the woman who has clung onto her since that night and refuses to let go. But Kaia's gang doesn't agree with her keeping Phoenix, despite how she begs to stay with them.
Phoenix needs professional help, not to join. And Kaia is starting to agree. But when it comes down to doing what's right, Kaia is afraid she doesn't have a good moral compass. In her world, killing, is usually the right answer. But she trusts in her gang and knows she must do the right thing for Phoenix.

But Phoenix, aka Nix, isn't having it. From the moment the six-foot hottie restrained her, she hasn't wanted her to let go. And will cling to her leg if she has to. She feels safe, safer than she's ever been when Kaia was in the room. And she won't let the woman send her off now.
