He has a rare heart condition that slows his heartbeat to the point of non-existence, the doctors gave him an estimated 5 years left.
when he hears this, he is saddened but he gives his family hope and gives them some old plans of his from when he was 5 (he's 10 years when they go to diagnose him and melissa for their quirks) a nuclear-powered generator capable of powering a whole country for 50 years (this'll be a bit like the first movie) with the help of his father, his sister, and his uncle Rhodey, he is more than ready for UA.

So he runs away to America to train for 6 years and become as strong as possible. After he returns to Japan, he attends UA to accomplish his dream of becoming a hero.
